We caused minimal impact to our surroundings in the creation of the new space. Our team remodelled an old agricultural barn located between our Market Garden and Farmshop by working with local craftsmen, adopting traditional techniques and using locally sourced materials throughout.

The design concept for the restoration works embraces the surrounding environment.

The architecture of the building is constructed of silver birch felled from the Daylesford Estate; Cotswold stone sourced from a local quarry forms the entrance and timber for the exterior pergola and interior walls was sourced from within 20 miles of Daylesford.

Our vital pollinators have been given a safe space within the external walls of the Garden, with bee blocks encouraging masonry bees to nest. We irrigate our plants by harvesting rainwater from the barn roof and stormwater mitigation.

The entire building is powered by our biomass boiler fed with wood chips from the Daylesford Estate to heat the underfloor. This green source of energy is supported by improving the thermal performance of the building.

A large soil wall constructed with natural clay and roots harvested from our Market Garden supports a sweeping mezzanine level. Till points, door handles and clothes hooks are crafted from fallen wood from the Estate and all fixtures use natural materials and FSC certified wood.
