As part of London Craft Week we are delighted to welcome designer and print maker Pia Östlund for a talk and demonstration on the captivating technique of nature printing, an art developed by physicians in the 15th century to aid the study of medicinal and useful plants.

Join us to learn about this innovative printing technique which gave rise to a wealth of strange and beautiful imagery in mid-19th century Vienna and London and the quest to revive it 150 years later following the discovery of a book in Chelsea Physic Garden’s library.

Guest will also have the opportunity to try an earlier method of taking plant impressions, using fresh plants and oil-based inks on paper, a technique used by botanist and artists alike to record the plants growing in their gardens.
