WHAT IS B CORP?

B stands for Benefit for all.

Since 2006, the non-profit network B Lab™ has been certifying B Corporations, companies that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. The B Corp movement creates standards, policies, tools, and programs that shift the behaviour, culture, and structure of capitalism.

Today, the B Corp Movement positively impacts 6,000+ businesses across more than 150 industries in over 80 countries. In the UK, there are now over 1,200 B Corps, across 58 industries with over 55,000 employees.

WHY B CORP?

The rigorous assessment by external experts at B Lab™ (the non-profit network that certifies B Corporations) offers a transparent view of what we do well, and how we could improve.

We began the lengthy process of completing B Corp’s Business Impact Assessment (BIA) in 2020, so certification is a huge achievement. The assessment involves a questionnaire that is broken down into five main areas known as “impact area pillars”: Governance, Environment, Workers, Community, Customers.

It is essential to complete the questionnaire and provide evidence, so the B Corp experts can analyse everything and give a score. The assessment is repeated every three years.

WHAT DOES B CORP CERTIFICATION MEAN FOR US?

For Daylesford, B Corp Certification means we are part of a worldwide community of businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental impact and value people, environment and business decisions equally.

Daylesford has always stood for organic food and farming and B Corp Certification is more than that – it is about everything we do around social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency and shows we are a sustainable and responsible business.

Our B Corp Certification covers our farm, farmshops, offices and wholesale. Read more from our Head of Sustainability here

OUR SCORE

Our current score is 87.3. A score of 80 points is required to become B Corp Certified. Most businesses score an average of 50.9 points and don’t certify.

To achieve our score, we answered over 500 questions as part of two separate assessments (one for the retail and operations side of Daylesford, and one for our organic farm).

Every B Corp™ is scored using the five impact areas in the B Impact Assessment, which are listed here along with some highlights from our assessment which contributed to our certification:
