Our hearty wholemeal with a rye-like flavour. Made with a special biodiverse, naturally pest-resilient, nutritious wheat made up of almost 200 ancient varieties, like our ancestors would’ve harvested. It’s a loaf inspired by the past and made for our future.
| Details | Wheat fields were once a jumble of plants with different heights, colours and other characteristics. This variety is an indication of genetic diversity, which brings a host of benefits including yield, quality (which is what the YQ stands for), improved resilience and nutritional content, along with reduced need for pesticides, fungicides and herbicides. Today however, standard wheat fields tend to be more uniform, with individual plants appearing identical to their neighbours. This is monoculture, which is more commonplace because of large-scale intensive farming and GM crops. YQ Population Wheat is made of 20 parent varieties grown together and mixed to make 190 different crosses, similar to the wheat our ancestors grew thousands of years ago. We have started planting it in our own fields at Daylesford for future harvests, but for now, we are sourcing from Hodmedod’s, a trusted supplier and specialist in sustainable British-grown pulses, grains and seeds. Our Head Baker says: “YQ Population Wheat is set to become increasingly popular in artisan baking. The Heritage Loaf we make from the freshly milled flour is a hearty, flavourful, wholemeal-style bread with a natural sweetness, nutty toasted flavour and mild sour notes. We have enhanced the texture with millet and linseed. If you like rye bread, you will love this. Best sliced thinly and served with cheeses, or as part of a picnic.” |

You may select your preferred delivery day during check-out. Next day deliveries have a cut-off time of 12pm (please note next day delivery is not available on all items).

Your order will arrive in a Daylesford branded, 100% recycled cardboard box packed with shredded spruce from Britain and Sweden, natural sheep’s wool insulation and non-toxic chilled gel packs, all of which can be reused, composted or recycled.
